Vintage Gulbransen Bakelite Tube The Little Jewel Radio// vintage art deco 1940's upright / vertical gulbransen tube valve brown / maroon bakelite & sheet brass portable radio with foldaway handle in working order! .  this fabulous little radio is in working condition, they were originally put out by westinghouse (us) & known as the little jewel refrigerator because of its shape looking like a fridge, however the import restrictions in 1936 from the us meant these were unable to be imported, so clarkes had collier & beale make the chassis that they could put in their own cabinets, it is also available under the name of cromwell, it has a loop aerial behind the side panel & it is made of bakelite & brass sheet metal, this small 5 valve radio has a foldaway handle to carry it around & is not battery operated. Teh bakelite plug is a double plug which you dont often see. It stands 23 cm high (9 inches) and is 13 cm (5 in) square. The bad news is it has a small chip & a crack underneath the left hand corner (see photo) which is not noticeable when on display nor does it affect how ti works, the crack runs up the side 8 cm.Happy to answer any questions you may have or to email you more photos.
