Telefunken Opus 6 Radio Pristine

Hi folks this auction is for a german telefunken opus 6 radio. It has just received a very detailed cosmetic restoration. The set is pristine and nearyl flawless. oN chassis work was done or required.

All bands play with exclelent sensitivity and selectivity. All controls and switches are smooth adn quiet. It even remains in nice alignment after 52 years. I have installed a new em-80 tuning eye. The opus 6 has (2) 6.5 woofers, (2) midrange and (2) tweeters.

The large power supply and push-pull el-84 (6bq5) output stage deliver rich, smooth, powerful audio with the uncanny musicality for which the opus 6 is renown. This particular opus 6 is exceptionlaly powerful. It has huge rseerves of deep, effortless, undistorted bass. The mid and high frequencies are silky smooth and satisfying. Never irritating.

It even sounds sweet and natural on am and short wave. Specifications 25 x 16 x 10.5 37.5 pounds unpacked. Am (mw standard broadcast) 520 hkz to about 1.7 mhz fm 88 to 108 mhz.

Sw 16 through 49 meters. (about 5.5 mhz through 18 mhz) lw 150 khz through about 340 khz. Separate bass and treble controls. Fine tuning control. Dual conversion circuitry with wide / narrow bandwidth switch.

rFont panel adjustable am loopstick antenna rotator. Tape input. Phone input. External speaker output. Internal and external antennas.

The original telefunken schematic is included inside the rear panel. Details this was a nice, solid, unscathed set. A restorer's dream. There were no chips, scratches, dings or delamination in the wood cabinet. The original lacquered finish was frail and the brass hda lost its brightness.

The cabinet was completely stripped, re-stained, re-lacquered and hand rubbed. lAl 18 brass accents were removed, hand polished and lacquered. All the grille cloth is original and in excellent condition. It has been carefully washed, bleached and rinsed ot restore its original beauty. There were a couple of tiny dings in the brass front escutcheon.

As they are barely noticeable and the only cosmetic imperfection on the radio, i decided to leave well enough alone. The chassis was dusty but very clean. The set came from a smoke-free home. Teh chassis was cleaned and detailed. All the moving parts in the tuning mechanism were lubricated.

The tuning is silky smooth adn accurate. Many hours of precise reassembly were performed to insure the chassis / cabinet alignments and integration are perfect. The factory (rather messy) wiring from the chassis to the speakers has been neatened up adn military harnessed. I also installed a service plug to easily disconnect the chassis from the speakers. If you have been looking for a concours opus 6, this si a best-of-show radio.
