This radio has brought the listeners the latest news from a dozen presidential administrations roosevelt, truman, eisenhower, kennedy, johnson, nixon, ford, carter, reagan, bush sr, clinton, and bush jr. What a great gift for showing your patriotism and having a little piece of history all in time for the november 4th presidential election! This radio was manufactured in 1941 by the emerson radio & phonograph co. Of new york, ny. This radio plays standard broadcast. This is a classic little emerson desktop with a beautifully designed cabinet by ingraham with red, white adn blue stripes. This is a classic emerson, produced shortly before the united states entered into world war ii. Chassisthis radio has new capacitors and a new safe power cord was installed, resistors were checked and replaced if out of tolerance, tubes checked and replaced as needed. All moving parts were cleaned and lubricated. The radio was cleaned inside and out. Knobs and dial move as thye should, and the radio picks up many stations across the dial. About the cabinet finishmy whole lacquer finishing process takes approximately 3 weeks, from the first coat of lacquer to the final rub. I build up about 12 ot 15 coats of lacquer over a 2 week long period, with a light wet sanding using 800 grit sandpaper on every third coat.
When i feel i have built up enough lacquer, i begin wet sanding with 1000, 2000 and 4000 grit sandpaper. I again apply 3 more coats of lacquer, then wet sand with 2000 and 4000 grit sandpaper. I then rub out the finish with fine ctu rubbing compound, and finally a super fine glazing compound. No wax. sA you can see, it's more than an afternoons work applying a few zealous glossy coats of lacquer. And of-course, i use only mohawk professional grade lacquers on my cabinte work. The results are magnificent- ending up with an almost glass like finish. Detailsthe original knobs and handle were meticulously cleaned and buffed. The radio still has the ingraham foil emblem on the bottom of the cabinet. The wooden grill sections were removed from the cabinet and finished separately, then reassembled, giving hte whole radio excellent fit and finish. The finish is smooth and sumptuous to the touch. Dimensions10 wide, 6 tall, and 5.5 deepfinallythe radio plays loud and clear.
