Mcmurdo Silver Masterpiece V 1937 Tube Radio WcabinetI am offering up a mcmurdo masterpiece v. I recently aquired this beautiful radio from a friend of ym fathers who has had the radio stored for quite a few decades now. It was stored fully working i was told. I have not powered it up owing to the fact that it would be far safer to bring it up slowly on a voltage variac to reform the capacitors that have not been on in perhaps 40 years. This would be easy and fun restoration i think, it looks complete except for the glass in front of the dial. From what i have seen online of then ardio it appears to have a different speaker and perhaps a different tube amplifier. There are 2 15 full range speakers in the cab both currently unmounted. One has the cone damaged but not the voice coil. hTe other is good. I tested the leads on a continuity tester. The cabinet is origianl to the mcmurdo and i believe the turntable is also. The amp uses 2 6l6 output tubes. Everything looks ot be there. All the metal tubes no the receiver are there and look untouched. The tuning dial moves smoothly when turned. The chassis of the receiver is fairyl corroded. Much of it appears to scrape off. I lightly scraped a bit here and there and hte chrome was underneath.
To make ti look fantastic i imagine a re chrome would be in order. There is a ding on teh front metal face plate.
The walnut cabinet appears to be in pretty nice shape. There are some dings and scratches all over.
One pretty big scrape can be seen in the photo on teh right side. Tehre is a a veneer chip on the speaker lattice work. The turntable on the top has it's needle but it is quite dusty. From what i have read thsi a fairly rare unit.
I would love this to make it into the hands of a true collector. The last one in super nice original condition sold for close to $7,000.
This one has a very affordable opennig bid for such a collectible piece. The radio will be for pick up here in santa barbara california unless arrangement were made ahead of time by the buyer.
I would not be able to crate it or bring ti anywhere. Craters and freighters could be used. I would also be willing to ship just the receiver by itself which is worth the opening bid for $75 within us. Note that the shipping shown is for the receiver only withuot the cabinet. Aslo i could ship the receiver, the tube amp and the 2 speakers in 3 separate boxes for a total of $150.
Overseas would be possible on the receiver but it would probably run roughly $250. Please note that the price of the overseas shipping is for the receiver only also.
The ohter pieces would probably make it nearly double. Please keep this in mind if you are an overseas bidder.
