Beautiful Working Prewar Philco Wood Tube RadioBeautiful, working, prewar philco wood table radio. This set dates to the 1940 model year. Beautiful, original finish, it is for the discriminating person who values originality in their collectibles/antiques. This finish is as nice as one could ever expect to fidn on a 68+ year old set. This unit stands in direct contrast to some of those refinished sets you see here on ebay that say professionally refinished with grain fillers, toners and lacquers, only to look like a craft fair/high school student job that you could scratch your fingernail in the exposed wood grain and have the wrong amount of luster in the refinish- and many times looking bleached in tone and flat/lifeless with no reflectivity. The wood used on this set was of a higher grade, the sister set to this- the model 40-135, had just one shortwave band instead of two, and is used a lower grade of wood. Unit has original knobs, crystal clear dial lens (the photos show reflections of me and my camera), grille cloth, upper front center philco decal, and knob function decals, which are excellent and complete (they usually are the first thing the wear- in my photo i moved a bit so it appears blurry in the photo, but not in person), and pressboard back. The original station tab call letter markers are in their brass pocket. The set plays loudly, clearly with good tone, no hum- on all three bands. It has the usual am/broadcast band, as well as two full coverage shortwave bands featuring the international broadcasters. Just tonight, i heard russia, china, japan, cuba, spain, and canada. The set features pushbutton tuning (in addition to the usual dial tuning), so you can zip to your favorite stations. They function quietly and smoothly. Has good, safe, power cord, and working dial lights, it has two. The radio measures 14 inches wide, 8 deep and 10 inches high. All radios sold have hda preventative electrical maintainence, so that they perform as well in the foreseeable future. As they do when you first get them. I stand behind hte components i've repaired, parts and labor- for 90 days. After that- free labor for 6 months. Why would you bother with someone who says they've restored the radio and then tell you you are buying as is- and why would someone's warrantee be worth anything if you can't find them again on ebay? Teh insides of my radios are given the same attention as the outsides. Celebrating ten years on ebay- selling beautiful, working radios on ebay continuously, since 1998. Each radio is packed in a way to guarantee that you won't be filing an insurance claim. Buyer pays shipping, $34 insured ground in us, more elsewhere. Paypal. Com is accepted, please see other radios for sale- this week, an rca victor tombstone wood set and a zenith bakelite set- in my no reserve auctions, and also other bakelite and wood sets in my new fixed price, buy it now, ebay store. |
