Antique Vintage 1946 Teletone Bakelite Tube RadioThis auction is for a working antique or vintage 1946 tele-tone bakelite tube radio model 109. It measures abotu 11 long x 6 3/4 tall. Important please click on the words larger picture above the photos below to view them larger. The cabinet the cabinet is a beautiful chocolate colored bakelite with a wonderful mirror like quality displaying the deep swirling with no breaks or cracks. Unlike other sellers, i do not use sprays, lacquers, or oils. What you are looking at is the original hand polished bakelite with all of its natural qualities and textures still retained. The bottom has some very light wear on it which is typical of a radio that has been shifted around on a shelf or tabletop repeatedly throughout its life.
Overall in beautiful condition. Please see hpotos below. The knobs, dial scale, and grill cloth the knobs are original to this set.
Eahc knob has been nicely polished exibiting no breaks. The dial lense is glass and very clear. Dial numbers show no flaking, all easy to read. A couple of very small spots of flaking on teh scale behind the right knob. The grill cloth was added by me. Normally these teletone sets have a plastic ivory/white colored swiss cheese grill. The one that was on this particular radio was too far gone to save due to the damage from warping and cracking. I have replaced it with a vintage cloth from the same time period (mid 1940's) with colors that i feel play incely off of the dial scale colors. It is tight, secured to a hard backboard, and clean. Some very small loose frays in the top right corner, but nothing bad. Please see photos for more detail. The chassis the chassis displays its age but is in nice vintage condition. This is a working radio, ready to enjoy. I am able to pull in several local detroit stations across the dial, your area and coverage may vary. All capacitors have been replaced, all out of tolerance resistors replaced, and all tubes were hcecked and replaced if weak. A new line cord has been added to the chassis but because of its location, please be sure that it is not resting against a tube before using the set. Because of the remaining chassis stock parts and their antique electrical nature, it is being sold as-is described and pictured with no refunds unless grossly misrepresented in the description. This would make a wonderful addition to any radio enthusiasts collection or a great ocnversation starter in any home or office. Consider the following in todays economic times, why give your trust and money to other sellers who spend more time in their listings attempting to critique other peoples restoration work for the benefit of promoting their own item, while spending even less time and effort describing the very radio that they are selling? Only to use the same tired copy/paste item description that is found in their other listings with very little changed. All the while borrowing descriptive keywords from other sellers, limited photos, or perhaps even no photos of the chassis. This should speak volumes to you as a consumer about the level of quality that might be found in their items.
